Jiffy — Tank Farm Exterior Blast & Repaint

Project Overview

Jiffy brought in Endurance Painting to strip and recoat the exterior of their tank farm — a row of large industrial silos that store grain and dry goods. The existing coating was worn and needed to be fully removed before a new protective system could be applied. That means abrasive blasting, full containment to capture all blast media, rope access on structures too tall for conventional staging, and confined space entry inside the tanks themselves.

This is exactly the kind of project most painting contractors can't handle. It requires certified confined space teams, proper containment engineering, and the experience to execute safely at height. Endurance Painting completed the full scope — blast, coat, and containment — on every silo in the farm.

The Work

The job required multiple overlapping disciplines running simultaneously across the tank farm:

• Full black containment tarps deployed around each silo to capture blast media and overspray
• Abrasive blasting of all exterior silo surfaces to bare metal, removing the existing worn coating system
• Rope access and suspended platform work for crew at elevation on the tall cylindrical structures
• Boom lift operations for mid-height sections of the tank farm
• Confined space entry inside silos — rope-descent work on the interior walls
• New protective coating applied to all exterior surfaces after blast prep

The finished tank farm looks exactly like it should — clean, uniformly coated, and protected for years of continuous outdoor exposure.

Results

From the aerial view, the finished silos are stark white against the Michigan sky — a sharp contrast to the weathered surface they came in with. More importantly, the new coating system is applied over a properly prepared substrate, which means it will hold. Jiffy gets a tank farm that's protected, compliant, and ready for another decade of service.
